Superpave

G & M Concrete and Asphalt Co., Inc. has been involved with Superpave since the late 1990s and have produced a variety of mixes ranging from light-traffic designs used for turn lanes, to heavy traffic mixes used on I-70.

What is Superpave? Superpave, short for Superior Performing Asphalt Pavements, is an improved asphalt mix design that is aimed at reducing the occurrence of rutting, fatigue cracking, cold temperature cracking, and stripping.  Superpave mixes involve extensive testing and incorporates only the highest quality materials into the finished product.  The first research into the development of this new product began in 1987 by the Strategic Highway Research Program.  MoDot has since implemented their own specifications and has been using Superpave mixes since the 1990s.  MoDot continues to research and improve the quality of Superpave mix designs.  They currently have 3 test sections in place at the NCAT(National Center for Asphalt Technology) test track located in Auburn, Alabama.
